I think one of the best drives in Colorado (if not, the whole US) is the Independence Pass. It’s almost like this secret little road that locals might even consider “overrated” but once in a while driving through will give you such an appreciation for it. Through the drive to the Continental Divide are a couple of hiking trails, river spots, rock climbing areas, and hidden waterfalls. The road is narrow and winding which could get a little bit overwhelming, but a focused driver and a chill passenger make for a perfect road-trip. The views are amazing! Even the areas hit by the avalanche are so interesting, that you almost couldn’t stop looking at them.
PS. The Continental Divide, despite being wide and an open area that looks flat is still at elevation 14,278, so come prepared with a jacket even in the summer! I can’t wait to drive through again in the fall and watch the color changing of the trees.
